staycation part 2

ha ha to all you people who think i'm pregnant... cuz i'm not!

i am the newest proud owner of an abdominal hernia!  funny thing is, i actually do think it's funny.  granted my sense humor is like unto the humor of a child meeting the humor of a sweet grandfather.  (i.e. not typical, and usually not actually funny.)  the hernia was definitely part of our vacation.  i think our culture is such that i'm not supposed to talk about having a hernia just like i wouldn't tell you about my most recent bowel movement, but i think that's silly because it's just something that happened with my body.  just like breaking my arm.  i wouldn't be ashamed to say i broke my arm.  so i'm not ashamed to say i have a hernia.  (tho brennen says it makes me an old lady.)  in any case, the hernia seemed to make it into conversations the entire weekend.  i tried to convince brennen he shouldn't tickle me because it might disturb the hernia.  but it didn't work...

(seriously guys... i have so much to say about the subject, i am just forcing myself to go on, because no one cares as much about my hernia as i do... tho i will add, that i was "diagnosed" by a family doctor that said i need to get it checked out by a general surgeon.  so that's the next step.  i don't have surgery or anything planned yet, but i  know hernias aren't really that big of a deal so i'm not too worried about it.)

so anyway...

we did all sorts of things.  (yes stacey, we went to walmart twice!)  we played tennis.  we saw a couple movies.  unknown (i liked it, brennen thought it was stupid.... so do your own research before you decide to go) and red riding hood.  i would have enjoyed red riding hood more had i known it was more of a love story than a scary movie.  i wanted to go to a scary movie with my husband.  i never would have suggested we go to a love story movie.  i would have done that with girlfriends.  we should have gone to the adjustment bureau.  has anyone seen that?  good...?  bad...?

we spent a day in park city, where we did touristy things (including eating at a nice italian restaurant at my request, and then the entree was terrible.... quite a let down, should have come back to the olive garden or johnny carinos!!) and we also hit the outlet stores!!!  i got three new pairs of jeans!!!  so now i have 5 wearable pairs of jeans.  let me tell you how excited i am.  i usually only have 2 wearable pairs of jeans at a time, and i just keep wearing those two pairs.  now i have FIVE!!!  and here's the best part...  2 pairs of them were on super super clearance at aeropostale for $8!!!!  (the other pair was $50 at american eagle... i went there first and didn't know about the super sale at aero.  i'm not sad tho, because i love the AE jeans, too!)  and the jeans at aero were still really cool jeans!  they were just last year's "models" and needed to be cleared out.  i'm usually not a shopper, so you can tell by the size of this paragraph that this was a big deal for me!!

this is a terribly long post, with no pictures to entertain anyone.  i apologize.  maybe i should take pictures of my new jeans so you can see how cute my butt is!! ;)

so really.  i think that all couples should be required to take two 4 day weekends a year.  and the rule is that you can't go anywhere.  you just have to stay home, relax, and take the time for yourselves.  we had so much fun.  we haven't had much time to just spend together as a couple.  there's always homework, or obligations of some sort.

SO.... i encourage you all, whether you have a big family, are just a couple like brennen and me, or are single, i encourage you all to just take time off, but go NO WHERE.  sometimes traveling home from a vacation undoes everything that the vacation stands for.  and you still associate being home with being stressful.  now brennen's and my experience being home is most recently associated with good memories of relaxing and being together.

so if you can, take some time.  schedule time off from work.  and make sure you DO NOT fill the time with all sorts of house hold chores and things.  relax.  have fun.  then you can come back ready to take on the world!!

  1. You're lucky that was a joke, or else I woulda been a bit miffed to read that on you blog ;) I'm sorry you have a (whisper) hernia. Such things as that fall under the big nuisance category. On the other hand, I'm glad your staycation was such a success! Yay for inexpensive new clothes, wahoo!

  2. A hernia! What a story! That reminds me of one of my old roommates, Jill. The semester before we lived together, Jill got a hernia. We named it, 'popping peeper'. We would do everything possible, especially Ashley, to get Jill to laugh so Peeper would come and say hi. This probably sounds really weird but y'know the goofballs we all are when rooming in Rexburg. We needed free entertainment and we got it.
Please get your hernia fixed though. I do find it alarming. I have an inkling that hernias only get worse with time. I'm glad you had a great staycation. I'm in total support of Wal-mart. The only time I"m not in support of Wal-Mart is if that was the reason you stood me up. I one-up Wal-mart, that's all I ask. ;) I think I should like to do a double date with you and Brennan, with me and Lane. I want to see the magic! What I really know would happen is I would buy something even if I had no intention too.
I love your posts. They're fun to read and I love your writing style!
